Privacy policy
Kosh is a personal expense and budget tracker. This page explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have. There is no account to create, and we do not sell your personal information.
Information that stays on your phone
Your records, categories, accounts, budgets, coins, check-in streak and settings are stored only on your device, in the app's private storage. They are not sent to us or to any server. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes them. You can export a backup file yourself from Settings; where you keep that file is up to you.
Auto-tracking from SMS and notifications (optional)
If you switch on auto-tracking, Kosh asks for permission to receive and read SMS so it can find transaction alerts from banks, cards, wallets and UPI apps and turn them into records. You can also, or instead, grant Notification access so transaction notifications from those apps are picked up.
- Messages are read and interpreted on your phone only. No message content is uploaded, logged remotely or shared with anyone, including us.
- Only messages that look like a completed money movement are used. From those, the app keeps the amount, the merchant or payee name, the last four digits of the account or card, the date, and the message text so you can check what was detected. One-time passwords, promotions, reminders and personal conversations are skipped and are not stored.
- The optional "scan older messages" action reads messages already in your inbox from the chosen period, with the same rules.
- You can turn auto-tracking off at any time in Settings, and revoke the SMS permission or Notification access in Android settings. Records already added stay until you delete them.
Kosh does not use SMS for anything else, and never sends messages.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Kosh is free and shows a small banner ad and optional rewarded videos through Google AdMob. To show and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google may collect:
- your device's advertising ID and other device identifiers,
- approximate location derived from your IP address,
- information about how you interact with ads, and basic device and app information.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK or Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before personalised ads are shown. You can change your choice at any time in Kosh under Settings > Ad privacy choices. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Android settings. Your financial records and message content are never shared with the advertising service.
Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Usage analytics (Google Firebase Analytics)
To understand which features are used, the app may send anonymous usage events to Google Firebase Analytics, such as "record added", "budget created", "auto-track switched on" or "backup exported", together with counts. Events never include amounts, merchant names, account details or message text. They are tied to a random app-instance identifier, not to your name or phone number. Firebase may also collect basic device information such as model and operating-system version.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Kosh shows an evening reminder to log the day and collect your check-in coins. Reminders are scheduled on your phone and need no internet connection or server. You can turn them off in Settings or in Android's notification settings.
Children
Kosh is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has used the app in a way that concerns you, contact us below.
Data security and retention
Data sent to Google's advertising and analytics services travels over encrypted connections and is kept according to Google's policies. Data on your device stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your choices
- Keep auto-tracking off, or turn it off later, in Settings.
- Revoke the SMS permission or Notification access in Android settings.
- Change ad consent in Settings > Ad privacy choices (where offered).
- Reset or delete your advertising ID in Android settings.
- Turn off reminders in Settings.
- Delete all local data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date.
